A three time NCAA champion, Valerie has run 15:45 for the 5000 m and 32:50 for the 10,000m. She is also the current course record holder at the Atlanta 1/2 Marathon in 1:14:45. Valerie is currently concentrating on the longer distances with an attempt at the marathon in June of 2002.
This spring Valerie has come through with some great performances, include breaking the course records at the PR 5K (15:39 on a net downhill course) and the Survivor 5K (16:45.) Valerie has also run 34:50 for the 10K this year. Valerie finished up here spring season by finishing 3rd in the very competitive Ogden Newspapers 20K in 1:12:02 and a terrific 2:38:02 for 5th at Grandma's Marathon.
Valerie is married to Shawn Young who graduated from the local Walton /high School and has a baby girl, Fiona, who was born in August of 2001.
